Monstrosity

Monstrosities are the catch-all category for creatures that don't fit neatly anywhere else - magical beasts, mythic hybrids, and the strange results of long-ago arcane experiments. This is where you find the manticore with its tail of spikes, the gorgon that turns foes to stone, the minotaur in its labyrinth, the owlbear that's both and neither, the chimera with three heads, the bulette erupting from underfoot, and the basilisk, cockatrice, hippogriff, hydra, and tarrasque. Monstrosities are often the signature encounter of a region - a regional villain that has become legend.
