What It Is

Big lad. Artisan's Guild sculpted this mastiff with proper heft—wide chest, thick neck, muscular haunches. Comes in two versions: naked (just the dog, powerful and scarred) or armoured (fitted with plates across the shoulders, chest, and head). Both variants include a skull accessory at the base, which is a nice touch for setting the scene. The pose is alert and grounded, weight distributed like it's ready to move or hold position. Ears back, mouth slightly open—this is a working dog, not a lapdog.

At The Table

War dogs show up in D&D 5e as Medium beasts (CR 1/4), but this sculpt punches above that weight class. Use it as a mastiff companion for a fighter or ranger, or bump the stats and make it a guard beast for a noble's estate. In a city-based campaign, this could be the prized hound of a corrupt magistrate—players have to get past it to reach evidence in the manor. The armoured version works perfectly for knightly orders or military units that actually invest in their animals.

For OSE or Shadowdark, lean into the old-school vibe: this is the hound that guards the tomb entrance, or the beast chained in the bandit camp that alerts everyone when the party tries to sneak through. In Dolmenwood, make it a Brackenwold hunting dog—bred by the drunes, unnaturally loyal, and possibly smarter than it looks. The skull accessory implies this thing's been in scraps before and won.

In Blades in the Dark, it's a Hound's prized mastiff—a four-legged crew member with its own reputation in Crow's Foot. Name it something absurd like "Sergeant Biscuits" and watch your table fall in love with it. In Call of Cthulhu, it's the loyal dog that senses something wrong about the new tenant in the boarding house before any of the investigators do. Dogs always know.
